Chicago’s Aqua named Skyscraper of the Year

Aqua, the 81-story lakefront beauty recognized worldwide for its sculptural design and environmentally friendly features, has been named Skyscraper of the Year 2009 by Emporis.

The organization also recognized Chicago’s Trump Tower among the Top Ten Skyscrapers of 2009.  Trump was ranked No. 5 among the 305 buildings eligible for the honor worldwide.

Both Aqua and Trump were built by James McHugh Construction of Chicago. Prairie Material served as the main concrete supplier for both structures, working hand-in-hand with McHugh to meet the unique demands posed by each project.

Emporis selected Aqua for its “dynamic and fascinating visual appearance, its application of green building techniques to large-scale residential construction, and its innovative use of precision construction methods.”

The Emporis Skyscraper Award is the only global honor awarded yearly to high-rise buildings. A jury of senior editors selects the winners from projects completed during the year and nominated by editors from 67 nations.

Emporis is the world’s leading provider of building-related information, with a database offering facts and images from over 400,000 properties across the globe.
